MIMETIC EXERCISES I, 2014
Throughout six months, visual artist Alejandro Cinque dyed his hair in different colours, documenting every change in images that I used after as the starting point to create other photographs in dialogue with the first ones. The resulting work is a series of six diptychs in which the conventional genres are twisted: the portrait becomes still-life and vice versa. Traditionally, a portrait is understood as an image of the face; but in this case, those who face the viewer are the vegetables, while the person doesn’t show the face in favour of a neutral and objectifying approach. This way, both images dissolve in each other in terms of genre as well as they do it chromatically.
